Have you ever sat and thought about what you should truly say during the blessing before a meal? Many default to summing it up, “Thank you God for the food, Amen;” whereas, others can be lengthier in their verbiage. Regardless of the technique, the point of the matter is always the same. Be Thankful and be Honest. In our minds, we all find some way to agree with whatever was said before saying Amen and eating our meals. That is simple. But what about when the finger is pointed at you?
It’s good to be prepared, so think about what you are thankful for.
This is my blessing to every meal:
“Thank you for the energy this meal is about to provide us. Let us respectfully gain the knowledge and the strength to do what is right with it, doing well for ourselves and especially for others; with the energy that we will gain from it. Let us be Thankful, for that is what sets us apart from the ravenous beasts of the world. Let us not be shadowed by over-consumption or weighted down by its outcome. Let us make use of what we are given, righteously. Let us be thankful. Let the good deeds of today bring us to euphoric exhaustion, allow for a better tomorrow and lead us to gain the knowledge to keep the cycle going with every ounce of energy we are plated with in our lives. Amen.”
I realize it is a little lengthy itself, but that’s why I’m writing it down for all to see. You many never hear me speak it, but you know I’ve thought about it.
Sincerely,
Amanda Jackson
